Alumna of the Year 1991: Sheryl K. Wyse

Sheryl K. Wyse was named EMC’s 1991 “alumna of the year.” The award was presented during the Sunday worship service of EMC’s homecoming and parents weekend Oct. 13.

Wyse has served 24 years in the Harrisonburg city school system, including 10 years teaching first grade, three years as instructional coordinator and nine years as principal–all at Spotswood Elementary School. In 19990, she received the National Distinguished Principal award from the Virginia Association of Elementary Principals and the U.S. Department of Education.

She was principal one year at the new Thomas Harrison Middle School before joining the Harrisonburg City Schools central office earlier this year as director of curriculum and instruction. In this position she develops and implements the curriculum for grades K-12 for students in three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school in the city school system. She also oversees textbook adoptions, libraries, special education, long-range strategic planning and accreditation reports.

The West Liberty, Ohio, native is married to Dwight O. Wyse (C 68), who is owner and president of Computer Management and Development Services (CMDS) in Harrisonburg. They have a son, Derek, and are members at Park View Mennonite Church.
