Glen R. Brubaker, a Lancaster, Pa., native who has been a medical missionary in Tanzania since 1968 with Eastern Mennonite Missions, was named EMU’s alumnus of the year during Homecoming and Parents Weekend.
Dr. Brubaker is currently research collaborator for HIV studies in the Tarime District of the Mara Region in Tanzania. The project is seeking to determine the HIV infection rate within this district, achieve intervention measures to control the epidemic and develop a vaccine to slow the spread of AIDS. He is also working on a vaccine for hepatitis B.
Brubaker has also served as a regional leprosy officer.
He is married to Ellin Meta Brubaker, a native of Tanzania, and they have three daughters, including Laura Brubaker, an EMU junior.
